This is a story about Paul, a 22-year old boy from Ottawa, Ontario who lost his job. This didn’t upset him very much because when he was laid off he was given a nice severance package and lots of spare time. Because he enjoys the outdoors, camping, cycling and photography, he decided to use this opportunity to do something silly: he is going to bicycle 6000km, from Vancouver, British Columbia to Halifax, Nova Scotia while taking absurd amounts of photos in the mean time. He’s doing this all by himself, since none of his friends have the time or money to go with him and probably don’t want to engage in something this stupid anyways. He sincerely hopes he will not be eaten by bears.
This blog exists as a means of letting those who care about him know where he is and how he’s doing, as well as possibly providing entertainment for anyone else who stumbles across it and enjoys his writing. It will be updated irregularly from internet cafés across the country.
Paul is embarking on this journey sometime between the 29th of June and the 1st of July, 2008. He expects it will take about 60 days if he can maintain an average daily distance of 100km, but ideally he aims to reach 125km/day. This should not be unreasonable as he has spent some time preparing himself and now maintains an average cycling speed of about 30km/hour without his gear and knows that he can cycle more than 5 hours a day without exhausting himself.
He hopes you enjoy this blog and cookies because if you don’t like cookies you are probably miserable anyways.
